APC Back Pro 550 UPS Battery Replacement

Current Setup

In my homelab I use an APC Back Pro 550 UPS to protect my TrueNAS Scale server and backup system from power outages.

Error Message

After now more than 5 years of operation without any issues, I recently received a warning message from the UPS management software via the TrueNAS integration indicating that the battery needs to be replaced UPS admin Battery needs replacements.

Maybe this happend because of a short recent power outage in my area or simply because the battery is now at the end of its life cycle. I ordered a replacement battery from Amazon DE ^*, which was delivered within three days.

Replacement

The replacement in many APC UPS models is quite simple and can be done without any special tools. After unplugging the UPS from the power outlet and disconnecting all connected devices, I turned the UPS upside down and removed the battery cover on the bottom by sliding it out.

After reconnecting the new battery and sliding the cover back on, I turned the UPS back to its normal position and plugged it back into the power outlet. Finally, I powered on the UPS and checked the status via the TrueNAS Scale integration. Everything worked fine and the battery status was now showing as healthy again.

Issue fixed.
